About the Industry Measurement Group

The Industry Measurement Group (IMG) is a part of a larger organization called the Canadian Institute of Hydrocarbon Measurement. The Canadian Institute also manages the annual Canadian School of Hydrocarbon Measurement (CSHM) in Calgary. The IMG is recognized by the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) as a formal voice for measurement. The objectives of the IMG include:

  • Identification of areas of common concern relating to measurement and encourage cooperation to resolve these concerns.

  • Increase awareness of measurement issues and foster beneficial relationships.

  • Act as a driver and sounding board for changes to measurement regulations.

  • Participate in the developing and establishing industry accepted standards for measurement activities.

Currently, the IMG is focused on organizing and hosting bi-monthly meetings that are informative and add value to attendees. Meetings are held September, November, January, March and May, typically the second Tuesday, from 9:00AM to 12:00PM.

Profile

The Industry Measurement Group was formed in 1999 by individuals from four companies (Crestar, Gulf, Petro-Canada, and Gulf Midstream/Kenonic Controls). The group gathered to discuss common measurement issues at a plant operated by Gulf Midstream. When the measurement issues were addressed, the group suggested similar meetings might be beneficial to other measurement personnel in other companies. The response was positive and membership has grown to over 150 members, including producers, vendors, and government agencies.
